Papermaking by hand can honor ancient traditions, plants, and beauty while allowing an interdisciplinary approach to other art processes. Paper can be transparent or opaque, rough or smooth, thick or thin, have other material embedded within, it can be made sculptural, and all these variables can be controlled in the papermaking process. Papermaking can integrate aspects of place, memories, and can repurpose material that might otherwise be wasted.
